Toad wheels get out of position

Hi folks. I tow a 2013 Equinox with my 40' 2001 Holiday Rambler Scepter. When making consecutive turns close together and opposite directions, the wheels on my toad become confused and at times want to go the wrong way. Any ideas on how to alleviate the issue ?

Toad wheels get out of position

Wider turns...

I have heard that sometimes the key has to be in accessory or something which helps on some new cars... My 2013 CR-V has to remain in the accessory position...

My 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid took a wrong turn into a gas station's pump island after a tight turn left into the pumps, then a tight turn to the right out of the pumps... Bent both the upper and lower tie rods... Spent two days in the shop... I was lucky I could get it fixed without an appointment....

Be careful with those tight turns... The toad can have a mind of it's own...

If you have the 4 cyl with electronic power steering, suspect that the ps is the source of the problem. Have a friend with that combo and he equates it to "trying to roll the mh". Have talked with a couple others with the same problem. Jeep has this issue with the Cherokee but with some pressure from FMCA have admitted to problem and developed a jumper to keep voltage to the ps while being towed. GM is still blaming the hitch or the mh.

Good luck,

I think there are two issues here to consider. The power steering as mentioned above is one. When a non running PS unit gives a lot of resistance to a change in the direction of the tires, making these tight turns very slow will help give the wheels time to change direction. I am convinced my Honda CR V gets dragged around on the front end a little bit.
The other thing to do is get the caster set up with the max. allowed amount. High caster provides more trail which is what makes tires follow the direction the car is being pulled.

Caster. Lifted modified suspension jeeps can sometimes experience this.

A bungee cord wrapped around the bottom of the steering wheel then attached to the seat bottom can reduce/eliminate the problem, by helping to keep it from getting crossed up. I had a jeep that would do this, bungee cord resolved, I still do the bungee cord on subsequent jeeps.

Didn't see anything from the OP as to 4 or 6 cyl but my money says that it's a 4 banger. The 4 cyl with electric ps doesn't have the resistance to being off center that's inherent to a hyd system.

Here's the Jeep issues with the same system. These should be links but if they don't come through, search this forum.

There are 4 threads that cover essentially the exact same info on towing 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokees, including recent info on the soon to be available fix from Jeep on the reported issue with "wobble".

To simplify this topic please refer to all threads before you post something new, it will make it better for everyone.

I have posted this note on the others as well.

Since the 2016 Grand Cherokee went to an electric assisted power steering, I'm hoping the problem doesn't show up, or I will be asking Chrysler to adapt the Cherokee fix to the Grand Cherokee. If it's on jumper, I wouldn't think it would be difficult.
