Need a little help out there from you folks about a wiring issue I have. I have a 07 Itasca Meridan towing a 07 Dodge Dakota 4x4 PU. I have installed an Air Force One brake unit in the Dodge that works great. The issue I have is I have installed a little red light on the dash that tells me when the brakes are activated in the PU and I can't figure out how to get the light to work if I disconnect the battery in the PU as the owners manual suggest. If I leave the battery connected it works like it is suppose to. I had to tap into the brake light switch wiring for this purpose.

Also, it is my understanding is that if I leave the power on while towing, the mileage just rack's up. I might add, I have seperate bulbs in the tail lights so I did not have to splice into the truck's wiring system.

Everthing works fine except when I DC the battery. Any suggestions will be greately appreciated.

Thanks Roy

Roy, if you hve a 6 pin connector you could install an additional brake light switch on the pedal to complete the circuit back to the light on your motorhome dash. You will need to supply power to the switch fromt he motorhome's 12 volt and back to the light's return wire.

I have a similar setup and I don't disconnect the battery in the toad. My Blue Ox system uses a relay at the brake switch in the toad. When the relay is normally open (toad power off) it completes the circuit thru the toad brake switch to the MH power and red light.

In my case while towing a Malibu you are suppose to pull some fuses. I have narrowed it down to two fuses and installed a switch. One of the fuses is the circuit for the computer. Mileage does not get added for me.

Just a thought. What if you used the existing toad brake switch and MH power with a couple of diodes on the toad brake switch to prevent the MH power from back feeding into the toad? Or maybe configure a relay.
