I just purchased my first RV and wondered about Toads. I found out that the vehicle I have, a new beetle, should not be towed four wheels down, so I am going to get something that can. Could you share what you have and good or bad experiences with Toads in general. I was told that it is a pain it the butt to use a trailer or dolly. Comments please.

We like to tow 4 down, but there are others who are just as happy towing with dolly or a trailer. It really depends on what you want to do. The advantage of towing 4 down is ease of hooking up or disconnecting. The advantage of a dolly or trailer is a greater variety of vehicles that can be towed and being able to switch vehicles more easily and less expensively. It'll come down to what trips your trigger and makes you happiest.

I like towing four down, but your cheapest route might be the tow dolly and use your New Beetle. I have towed a Jeep Wrangler, a New Beetle manual, an HHR automatic, and now a Forester manual, all four down. All have worked well.

I have towed 4 down, dolly, trailer and currently 4 down. I have towed using a driveshaft disconnect, standard shift and currently tow a Honda automatic. I would never tow with a dolly again.

I prefer 4 down due to ease of hookup/unhook and do not have to store a trailer while traveling some RV parks.

There are lots of folks towing New Beetles 4 down with no issues. It does have to be a manual, however. I am currently setting up my 2004 Convertible to tow behind my RV. If you have an automatic, the only way is with a dolly. Search this forum using beetle as your identifier.

We tow a Ford C-MAX. Did a lot of research and narrowed it down to the C-MAX or a Jeep. We selected the C-MAX as it was a nicer commuting car (it's primary use) when not being towed. We now have (as of this post) about 5800 towed miles on it...tows like it's not even there (at least with our MH).
