I am on the verge of buying a 2006 Thor 26' motorhome (
) on a Ford E450 chassis (
). My current passenger car, a 2006 AWD automatic-transmission Honda Element would be well within the Thor's towing capacity, BUT I see info on iRV2 that suggests the 2006 Element shouldn't be used as a toad 4down. (Gee, I'm catching onto the lingo!
On the other hand, a thread on
2006 Honda Element Dinghy Set-up seems to take it for granted that a 2006 Element can be towed 4down and goes into details that are far beyond my capacity to understand.
My Element is well beyond warranty, I'm its second owner, my auto mechanics are an independent garage, and I'm not sure I care what Honda thinks. I just need to know if the car will survive being towed 4down.
I had thought I'd have to get something like a Smart Car for a toad, and I'd still like to do that some day, but if I can use the Element for now, that would simplify my transition to the larger motorhome (the Thor 26') from my current Sportsmobile van 18'.
Advice, please? Comments?
With gratitude
