Tow bar/ baseplate
Do I buy a base plate and get the tow bar with proper ends or do I buy the tow bar and specify it to the base plate seller?
Thanks
Nick

Most of us buy the tow bar and and baseplate from the same company so there will not be a compatibility problem.
I have and prefer Blue Ox.

Blue Ox also for both, but went with a Roadmaster Brakemaster for the toad brake.

Agreed. Buy the towbar and baseplate from the same manufacturer.
I also prefer Blue Ox.

When it really comes down to it, as long as the tow bar ends are compatible with the base plate connections it doesn't make any difference. I am currently running a Ready Brute Elite tow bar with a Demco base plate. I've used this combination for over 9,000 miles with no problems. Select the base plate that best fits your toad with the least modifications, and then select the best suited tow bar for your towing needs and specify the end for your particular base plate.

Most people buy a tow bar and base plate from the same manufacturer. However, adapters are available to fit different tow bars to different baseplates if you need to do that.
As lllkrob says, there may be a circumstance when you really want a certain tow bar, but you don't like the way that baseplate fits your toad. In that case, check to see if anyone makes an adapter and buy a baseplate from another manufacturer.
There could also be a case when you already own a tow bar and you end up buying a used toad with a baseplate from another manufacturer already installed. In that case, you could also look for an adapter.

Not that I would not mix em up if I was buyng used, out of warranty stuff, but if you buy new, I'd get em from the same manufacturer. I can just imagine if a failure occured, the other guy would always be blamed for the failure with 2 manufacturers.
