The toughest part is routing the cable and have it come out the center in front with the radiator and oil cooler right there. Today I'll do the break away and it should be easier.

I use a Demco Aluminator tow bar & base plate on my Wangler, the kind that stays on the coach, not the front of the towed thus making the base plate about as invisible as you're gonna get with a Jeep and was a direct bolt on to the frame rails, no drilling. Base plate installation time was about a 1/2 hour.

For lights, I used 2 diodes and tapped into the wire bundle on the driver side, just behind the seat. This method allows marker lights, rear turn signals, tail lights and brake lights without the need to install additional light sockets. Total install including the base plate was about an hour. Any hitch shop can do this for about $100 or less if you're not comfortable doing it.

Just finished with the break away cable. About 3 hours. Glad it's done.

Congrats, John. We haven't installed the brake cable nor the breakaway yet. Guess that will be next weekend. How does the breakaway route? Did you have to drill anyplace on the toad for that?

Yes, You have to drill through the firewall for the cable and some small holes for mounting the block that the cable runs through. Biggest problem is trying to find a place to route everything with so much stuff in the way. Glad it's done...

So you had to drill through the firewall for both the brake cable and the breakaway? I haven't looked at the instructions for the breakaway yet, but I know the brake cable must have a hole drilled. Thanks.

Yes they want the second hole at least 1/2" away from the other.

OK, thanks John! I guess we need to bust open those packages and start reading the installation guides.
