Tow Base plates and Bar for '12 Wrangler Unlimited

I need advise on which tow plates, bar and wiring system to install on my new 12 Wrangler Unlimited. I want plates which are the least noticeable when not in use. The tow bar will be MH mounted. A local installer recommends a separate light wiring harness with separate bulbs mounted in the rear light housings; to avoid shorts, grounds and diode problems. Any recommendations are appreciated. I just installed a Demco on our Jeep last Sat. It doesn't stick out much and has plastic covers that snap on when not being used.

Thanks. What was the install time and difficulty level? Any drilling required in the frame/bumper? Have you installed a brake wiring system yet?

Hi, I have the Currie base plate some others on this forum have gone that way as well. Here is a Link. Currie Mounting Plate and Blue Ox Aventa LX
I am going with the Ready brake Elite If you go to the Towing Forum on this site you will find lots of info. The Ready Brake system seems to be the KISS way to go.
I have no interest in either of these companies I just believe that they are Good. I recently bought a 2012 Wrangler 4 door to tow.

It took me 3 hours to install, but the entire fascia of the Liberty had to come off. My guess is the Wrangler would be simpler. I did have to drill 2 holes, but wasn't much of a problem. I haven't done anything about the lights yet and I still have to run the cables for the Ready Brake.

My hubby just installed the Blue Ox baseplate on our 2012 Wrangler last weekend. It was fairly simple but took some time. The bumper had to come off the Jeep and the fog lights unplugged. I believe there is one hole in the Jeep that works with the Blue Ox, but two additional holes need to be drilled on each side for mounting. The base plate is barely noticeable once installed.

We are probably going to go with the Blue Ox wiring kit (does not tie into Jeep wiring), but still trying to decide on that.

We bought the ReadyBrute tow bar and break-away since it incorporates the supplemental brake for the toad. The entire towing package was only $1459 from Tow Bars Unlimited.com, with free shipping and no sales tax. That was the best deal I found on the entire tow package.

We have Roadmaster 1428 brackets. Didn't have to remove the bumper. Took the better part of a day to do the complete install from parts to tow.

Just installed a Blue Ox base plate Model BX 1126 on our 2012 Wrangler unlimited. Took about 3 hours did it right at our camp site, needed to drill two holes on each side. Connecting pins come off when not in use and looks very nice. Also installed separate bulbs in the tail lights that took about 90 minutes and is not hard to do. Also prevents any warranty problems with wiring if something goes wrong. Am using a Demco tow bar model 9511010 and a brake buddy.

I think it was the hardest part of the project but well worth the effort.
