Tow capacity
Does anyone know the towing capacity for a 2004 Dolphin LX on a Workhorse Chassis, Allison 1000 Transmission, and 8.1 liter Vortec V8. I've been towing a Mini Cooper 4 wheels down. Just sold the unit and the new owners are towing a Ford Fusion on a tow Dolly. They are looking at purchasing an extended warranty that limits them to a 2,000 pound towing limit. Sounds pretty light and arbitrary to me.

Look in your owners manual or call the manufacturer. I would guess (only a guess) that it should be rated at either 3800 or 5000. If they are going to limit themselves to 2000 that won't tow anything.

My 2003 Dolphin LX tow hitch is rated for 5000#'s------the chasis is rated 22,000#'s----8k front 14,5k rear------the gcvwr is 26k so it means I can actually tow---4000#'s if I am fully loaded and my weight is 22k----or if I weigh 21k then I can tow 5k max.
The 2004 may have the 24K chasis---changing the dynamic accordingly.

Sorry I missed the obvious---2000 lbs towing is very limiting----I mean a skateboard---maybe. They might check with another extended warranty provider. the one they have is basically saying yes but---meaning no.

The formula for tow capacity is the GCWR minus the weight of the tow vehicle when ready to tow, or the capacity of the hitch, which ever is less.

Totally agree with the above...
The question isn't what the vehicle can/can't tow, it's what the warranty provider will "cover". Knowing the actual capacity of the vehicle won't change the terms being offered, at least at their current price.
Buying that warranty would be like adding Maternity Care Coverage to my Grandpa's health insurance.
