I just setup our new 2005 Jeep Liberty Limited for towing behind our 2003 Gulf Stream Sun Voyager, with a Rock Solid rock guard installed, and was wondering if anyone has any exeriences to share with Tow Car Shields. The real question is: are the Tow Car Shields worth the additional investment, if you have a rock guard already installed?

I don't know if your mean "Rock Solid" as in a brand name, or just that it is a stiff rock guard ...but from all I have read, the so-called rock guards may in fact cause more damage to a toad than having no guard would, especially if they are very close to the road when underway. We have a solid rock guard across the back of our Ultimate (apx 4 inch clearance from pavement), and also use a Blue Ox KarGard shield that mounts on top of the tow bar.

We plan to be at Eagle Mtn RV Park NW of Ft Worth for most of February. If you are in the area then and want to come take a look, let me know.

Nice RV. Rock Solid is a brand name. Like you, I have installed the rock guard about 4" from the ground as well. It has served me well for almost 3-years, but with the new tow car I have been thinking about additional protect, if it makes any sense to do so. I also have a Blue OX system and have looked into their rock guard offerings, but would prefer not to deal with puttng them on and taking them off each time we need to use the tow car. If the Tow Car Shield really works well, it seem to me it would be much easier to put on an take off...

I did check out the Blue Ox shield that goes underneath the tow bar ...hooks onto hooks you put on the motorhome & car for each of the four corners ...don't recall what they call it ...underskirt maybe? It is some kind of mesh material, and you can get a kevlar shield to "protect" it from rear exhaust if you have a diesel. Problem is, some diesels still melt a hole in it. Since I got the Blue Ox KarGuard, I have seen the similar Roadmaster shield. It appears to be much more resiliant than the Blue Ox (mine already has a small crack in the surface.) The Roadmaster can store on brackets on the back of the motorhome when not in use ...does not take up inside space. When I have to replace the Blue Ox, I'll check out the Roadmaster and see if they have adapters to let it fit on my Blue Ox tow bar.

I had and used a Blue Ox guard that mounted above the tow bar to protect the toad front. With my full width mud guard and my never driving on gravel roads, it was unnecessary. With or without the guard made no difference. I do not use any additional guards.
