Did you look for the answer in your Owner's Guide? I'll bet it's in there.

Grumpy ole man with over 50 years towing experience. Now my heaviest trailer is a 7,000-pound enclosed cargo trailer, RV is a 5,600 pound Skyline Nomad Joey 196S, and my tow vehicle is a 2012 F-150 EcoBoost SuperCrew.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 4-Runner RWD and/or 4WD? So, if you can't town it 4-down, how do you expect to keep the rear tires from turning the transmission? Toyota does not make any vehicle that is 4-down towable.

Also, with a dolly, you can only tow FWD vehicles or tow a RWD vehicle backwards.

However, you can purchase and install a driveshaft disconnect that will disengage the driveshaft from the rear-end, making it 4-down and dolly towable.

Good luck
