i just received a new Eze-Tow dolly, and want to have a spare set of straps with me as i travel.

the dolly came with straps that has snap hooks, which I like since they appear to be a bit more secure than just the flat hook found on other straps.

question i have is with the other end, the winch end. these straps have a loop that the winch end of the strap goes thru before it enters the winch. you have to ensure that the loop is centered with the winch, and then feed the end of the strap into the winch. guess these straps are a bit more adjustable, but wonder if the metal loop is just another place for the strap to wear as it goes thru the loop?

most of the other straps i find have the winch end of the strap sewn to the last cross strap. to use this strap, you hook the flat hooks on one end to the dolly and then this end into the winch.

which is best? my toad has 15" wheels, but pretty small tires, with only a 24" diameter.

Hey Gman,

The idea of getting a back-up set of straps from a different company is really only availableto you folks with the new(er) slide rachet (single front strap) because those of use with the older 4 point straps are kinda' stuck with OEM straps.

The metal loop is a wear point, but it is smooth and should not tear/damage the strap (mine hasn't after 2 years).

I would bet that you could buy straps from a different company that would work and have read that Demco sells different sizes for different tire sizes - which might be useful(?) for your smaller Toad tires.

I guess the question is what's the cost benefit? Are you going to save a lot over getting the spares from Acme? If so, I would wonder about the quality...but they are only a back-up right?

I don't have a spare set of straps, and I have called about ordering. And, now that they have gone to a different style, I guess I should do that sooon.

i got one "Demco" style strap and compared it to the adjustable ones that Eze-tow supplies. IMHO the Eze Tow straps provide a bit more secure tethering to the tire and although the winch strap goes thru a metal ring, it is as strong if not stronger than the Demco style. clearly I'm not an expert, but laying the straps side by side and measuring, the adjustable Eze Tow's fit much better. Thus, I have ordered a back up set of Eze Tow straps.
