have a master tow dolly with carisal rubber. have 7000 miles on tires. i've notice my tires have a chop on the tread.check air pressure 10 psi low so put them up to 50 psi. just trying to get info. heading to AK don't now if should get them change ? any info would be great.

Depending on the wear pattern, it could be out of balance tires or it could be an alignment issue.

It could also be from bouncing, if you pull it for very long without a car on it they bounce like crazy. Wear like you describe will affect the ride more than anything else, and since you presumably don't ride in your toad it shouldn't be a problem.

Been my experience with radial tires over the years that once they set a wear pattern that is easily visible, it is difficult, if not impossible, to change it. If it were me, I would replace both tires, get 'em properly balance and inflated....and keep an eye on them. Not worth it to have one of em "surprise" you when you least expect it. Just MO....

I have a master tow dolly with the same wear pattern on the tires. My tires are bias ply trailer tires. I run 50 lbs. in them as recommended. Had them checked at a tire dealer, rebalanced and found out that this is fairly common for pivoting tow dollies. Seems that about 10000 miles is the magic number for these tires from what I've read. There are so many variables when towing, weight on dolly, position of car, etc. and the dolly has no suspension, that it is very difficult to pinpoint the cause. Guess it just comes with using the dolly. I would purchase new tires before the trip. Most people recommend trailer tires because of the sidewall construction.

thanks for info. finaly got wifi. we replaced tires and was told to check wheel bearings. they were loose repacked them and tighten them. been watching them not heating up. than read oweners manual it said to check every 3000 miles. i guess it's called credit hours collage of life.

.......Bob, the above post pretty much says it all, just the nature of the beast with a swivel platform. The tires will not track exactly straight while pulling, therefore causing uneven wear. I also have a Master-Tow dolly, and both set of tires have had the same wear pattern. I keep the buddy bearings greased regulary and tires balances, same result. I would not change the tires unless they are really bad or dry rotted, JMHO, Good luck and travel safe.

thanks for replay i changed tires and will watch them.wouldn't have done it but just started out and thought it would be cheaper here.

I called Master Tow to ask some questions today. I was told the bias ply tires tend to wear quicker and more unevenly compared to the radial. He suggested I try to get the radials. They are an option on the Master Tow so all the dealers I checked with did not have any units with the radials.

I certainly have no knowledge of this other than what I was told. I was thinking if I did get the Master Tow I would have the tires replaced with radials from a local tire shop and buy a used wheel to mount one of the bias ply tires for a spare.

Do yourself a big favor if you run radial ply tires on the ground have a radial ply tire for a spare as well.
