tow dollying a CRV
We have a 35 foot Class A motorhome we normally flat tow a smart car we are planning a trip in the spring with our kids and our great grandchild so the smart will not do as a toad. We have a tow dolly also and my son has a 2013 Honda CRV 4 wheel drive I see people are towing 4 down but we don't want to put a base plate on for one trip. Will there be any problems with towing with back wheels down. Will the transmission be turned by the back wheels? Will we still need to stop and run engine and run through the gears on the transmission? Any other issues? Dolly has brakes and lights. Thanks for any help.

Very few AWD or 4-wheel drive can be dolly towed. Two wheels on the dolly and two on the ground will kill your transfer case. You will need tow it with all 4 wheels up or in other words a trailer.
For the final word check the owners manual on towing and also check REMCO Towing Products.

2X. Either all 4 wheels down or up to avoid transfer case problems.

I just bough a 2013 CR-V AWD this week. The owner's manual is very clear...DO NOT DOLLY!

Just towed my 2008 Honda CR-V behind 2000 Southwind 36 ft from Colorado to Arizona. Paid 465.00 with insurance, had to buy a 2 inch ball for the receiver at Walmart. Locking one about 47.00
Uhaul gave us four days on hauler but when we had two flats on RV,I called and they gave us an extra day no charge. Very easy to tow (even for a newbie). Insurance increased price about 50 dollars. Call ahead to reserve. Hope this helps. I had been told by Honda service less wear and tear to haul it rather than 4 down.

Forgot to mention 47.00 from Walmart also included an adaptor to hook up trailer lights.

Interesting!
About $500 for about 1000 miles.
A bit steep?

About 3 more trips and you could do it for free for many years. I never considered not towing 4 down but now know roughly how quickly it pays for itself. I feel better.
