tow plate safety cables

We have a 2011 malibu that I had an RV center install a blue ox base plate on last July. Since they do them "all the time", and had been in business since 1967. Long story short, the safety cables were wrapped around the chassis frame and the safety clamp that held the cable rested against the air conditioner condenser. not noticed by me because of the air dam under the radiator. the cable clamps eventually rubbed against the condenser creating two holes. Hence new condenser (800.00). Dealer went out of buisiness recently. I'm writing this to advise owners to take a minute to check the safety cables on their toads and make sure they are not rubbing against parts of the front ends. I am angry,but will replace the condenser. If this helps someone else..great!

What a bummer. I often wonder about "professional" installations and I'm glad we were able to DIY our ReadyBrute towing setup. Don't you just HATE those expensive "lessons?" Thanks for sharing your experience; it might help someone out.

Yes I do. I usually do my own repairs, but this being a new car with warranty, i figured if done by "professionals" I wouldn't mess it up. I hope it does help someone else. thanks. This time when it is repaired, I want to see the repair before paying the bill. Gee am I paranoid?

Contact your insurance company, this may be covered under your comprehensive coverage......no harm in asking.
