I just got back from a trip and had to pay $800 to replace all four tires of my tow vehicle. Seems that the Blue Ox brake system triggered, dragged our tow vehicle with the brakes locked for some period of time, and dragged the tread off of all four tires.
The Blue Ox system is an all-or-nothing brake system. We had it set at the second lowest sensitivity setting. Nevertheless, it locked up the toad brakes and dragged the toad tires screaching until we could pull over and stop. Tires were flattened on one side and dead.
I love the Blue Ox tow bar. I will never plug in the Blue Ox toad brake system again.
Anyone else ever lost all four toad tires from a brake system engagement?
PS: The system worked per its design function. All or nothing. Its just that the "all" part cost me $800 in new tires.

What model of brake system is it and have you talked to Blue Ox?

Have you figured it why/how the brake system triggered? Definitely contact Blue Ox to get them involved in diagnosing how this happened. Could be an internal fault in their unit or could be something in the toad set-up or even the connection to the coach brakes that triggers normal braking. Could be in the brakeaway switch to, if you have one of those.

On my way to tenn. a few years ago I hit the brakes(roadmaster) and they locked.I saw smoke and heard a nasty screech. They stayed locked till I pulled over.It was only seconds ,the tire's did the thump thump thing for awhile but no permanent damage.

The most likely cause of this problem is forgetting to purge the toad brake vacuum...if you dont it's the same as standing on your brakes when driving the toad
