Hello All,
I am a new member and this is my first post...!!
Well I have exhaustively looked at and researched used Class A gas coaches and have determined that a 2015-2016 Tiffin 36LA is the best fit for my wife and I. Gives us a nice coach with the amenities we want and keeps us within budget.... Yay..!! We plan to retire in the next 1-2 years and live in our motorhome full time. We have not purchased one yet but now we are ready to do so and start off with some smaller trips before going full time. One issue I have is what I should use as a tow vehicle (toad). Maybe someone here can help me.? All my research points to the Jeep Wrangler or Honda CRV as the best options. I would like to keep my Audi Q3 but I don't want to put it on a trailer. I would prefer to flat tow. I see so many different models of vehicles being used as toads but whenever I look them up I am told you need to do this or that under the vehicle prior to towing and/or start the engine and let it run for a few minutes every few hundred miles to keep from burning up the transmission or linkage. Is all this correct? I am not a car guy and would like to keep it simple and keep the vehicle I currently have instead of replacing it. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

We love our Honda CRV. I'm sure you know that those are flat-towable only through the 2014 models.

There is only one way your Q3 will tow....

If you bought the cheaper entry-level basic one, it can be purchased without the Quattro all-wheel drive system, meaning you have a front-wheel drive only Q3.

If that is what you have it can be towed front wheels up on a tow dolly....

If you have Quattro.... There is NO way without it being completely up on a trailer.

I know this because we bought the 2018 Q3 with two-wheel drive for just that reason but then traded it as the wife said it was just too small of a car for it to be her daily driver. We traded it in after 3 months and now flat tow her 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL.

I also own a 2018 Audi Q7... trust me Ive asked.... "Quattro means no"

Neither our prior 06 Jeep Liberty nor our current 14 CRV required any fuses pulled or stopping every so many miles. IMO, they both have the least amount of steps to be 4-down towable. The Liberty was about 500lbs heavier than the CRV, yet both towed like a dream behind our former gas Bounder & now or current Phaeton. The CRV has a 3 minute run-through the gears procedure prior to towing but that's it. Once we swapped out the CRV's crap OEM battery for a Grp 24 size, we've had no dead battery issues.

I don't know what the current status is of the new concept Liberty's being towable - I think the last year for the Liberty was 2012, but the last year for the CRV's was 2014.

Loved our CRV. Wife had to have the pretty Jeep Liberty Jet. No regrets on either.
Fully loaded Jeep with canoe on top, folding bikes inside, spotting scope and other "necessities" puts me close to my 5,000 pound limit.
