The brake I purchased is a roadmaster model 9300. Someone had posted that there has been some problems with this particular model but said there was some way to install a couple of relays that would cure the problem. Is there anyone out there who can help me out on this ?

Don't recall that, I did post some upgrades but they were for the Roadmaster Invisibrake controller.

Just installed a Ready Brake. Towed twice for short distances and am very happy with it. Easy to install.

Lot of good info here. When I first bought my coach and
was processing all the things I needed to learn, I ran
across this article. I thought then, and now 10 years
later, I know that this is good information. My personal
selection was the SMI Stay in Play Duo system. And
after these 10 years and 95,000 miles I can report that
I made a good decision for my needs. Best of luck.

I've towed a Jeep Cherokee for at least 60K miles using the Ready Brake and Ready Brute. I consider it an excellent choice. It is the only system on the market that when adjusted correctly ALWAYS brakes enough and NEVER brakes too much! It only needs re-adjusted if you change tow vehicles...maybe.

Contrary to what some think, trailer weight requirements are not toad weight requirements as far as individual state laws.
That being said unless your toad is under about 3000#, I would get a brake system for the toad unless you have a really heavy rv, probably a tag.
An explorer is 4000#+ or so isn't it?

About as important as it is to stay below the speed limit or carry liability insurance. No problem as long as you don't have an accident or get caught.

Actually, loaded and with gas, an Explorer pushes almost 5000lbs.
And, tag or not, the extra 10 feet it will push you in a panic stop could put you out in the middle of an intersection or worse yet, into the rear of the stopped vehicle in front of you. Legal? Illegal? Wrong question. Safe or unsafe, better question. It’s not just you, it’s the safety of the rest of the traffic around you. Just my .02.

How would you or I know about every accident in the USA every day. Use common sense. If its mechanical and people have their hands on it, stuff happens. If you could care less, that's on you if something happens. Just hope its not me and I live!

In Utah, a toad IS a trailer:
Index Utah Code Title 41 Motor Vehicles Chapter 6a Traffic Code Part 1 General Provisions Section 102 Definitions.
72) (a) "Trailer" means a vehicle with or without motive power designed for carrying persons or property and for being drawn by a motor vehicle and constructed so that no part of its weight rests upon the towing vehicle. (b) "Trailer" does not include a pole trailer.
