We towed our 1972 VW Beetle convertible on a U-Haul Auto Transport trailer to a VW show about 3 hours from home this weekend. We usually flat tow an 08 Jeep Wrangle Unlimited. At 4400lbs, we hardly know the Wrangler is back there. The VW/Trailer combo felt like I has dragging a brick behind me! Handling was fine but the Ford E450 based RV struggled constantly to keep 55mph and forget climbing hills on some of the secondary roads.

The U-Haul is supposed to weigh 2000lbs, the VW 1800lbs. That should have put us 600lbs less than the Wrangler which the RV has no trouble with at all. Go figure? Glad I never tried the VW before setting up the Wrangler, I probably never would have done it.

BTW: We won 3rd place
