towing 06/07 Grand Cherokee

Getting ready to replace the DW 2000 grand Cherokee with an 06/07 but noticed that not all are towable 4-down . Is there a way to tell if the jeep has the proper tranfer case just by looking at the dash or shifter? They don't seem to have a lever like our present one has to put in neutral for towing. Also what are the names of the 4 wheel drive systems that can be towed 4-down ? Thanks. Terry

Our 2005 has chrome 4wd shift T handle imbeded in the rear right of the shift console. Next to it is a button that needs to be depressed by a pen tip to cause the transfer case to shift into/out of Neutral. Next to that tiny button is an LED indicator light.

The jeep manual also will tell you what transmission(s) can be "recreational towed". Look for that item in the manual index.

You need to make sure the Grand Cherokee has the Quadra-trac II transmission which has the transfer case that will allow you to tow behind your RV. Quadra-trace I is NOT towable.

I just pulled my 2008 Grand Cherokee 6000 miles with zero trouble.

If you are looking at a used 2006/07, I HIGHLY recommend trying to find a Grand Cherokee with the 3.0l CRD Diesel. It is a Mercedes engine, 23 mpg, and runs great. My 2008 was the last year they offered that engine.
