Well,
There's plenty of threads on towing Jeeps banging around on here but, to put it short, the first thing for you to do is, READ THE OWNERS MANUAL.

It will spell out every step.

But, to put it ultra short, we follow all steps, then, the key is removed for towing.

JK's don't have a locking steering column. No need to leave the key in.

According to this, an '08 Jeep JK is required to have the key in the "ACC" position for towing.

Mine is an Ď07 and for sure locks, best thing is check the manual of specific vehicle and even better is to verify it does not lock some years seemed to indicate that the wheel may or may not be a locking setup.

Anything past '08 has no steering lock. It was eliminated sometime mid model year, '08.

Great, thanks everyone, the user manual was somewhat vague. I knew I could find the answer here
