Towing 2016 itasca 38q

I have searched for the answer to my question but didn't come across an answer. My question I have a 2012 Jeep Liberty weight 4260 lbs. My GVWR is 26000 my GCVWR is 30000. If I am under my GVWR by 100 lbs can I tow my Jeep Liberty?

hartleysb-

First, I assume your hitch is rated for more than the difference between the GCWR and GVWR, which in your case is 4,000 pounds. If the hitch was rated lower, that limit would apply.

Second, you say your toad is 4,260 pounds, although you don't say if this value is obtained by weighing or by manufacturer's specs. Some vehicles seem to weigh heavier than their spec'd weights. Anything you put in the toad will add to its weight. So, at a minimum, you are exceeding your tow limit by 260 pounds, or slightly over 5 percent.

Third, you say you are under your GVWR by 100 pounds. As measured by weighing? Do you know for sure that this is the most your coach ever weighs?

What you are asking is if you can "borrow" weight from the GVWR and give it to the GCWR.

The answer is... it's up to you to decide if you want to exceed the manufacturer's ratings. You'll find vocal iRV2 posters on both sides of the line, each with his own experiences to back up his viewpoint.

Go weigh both your coach & Jeep, fully loaded/ready for travel. That will tell you what you want to know.

Our Bounder is equal in weight limits to your Suncruiser. Even fully loaded, we're only around 22k. We also tow a Jeep Liberty w/plenty of weight to spare. Unless you're hauling gold bullion in your bays, I highly doubt your coach is at 26k, even fully loaded.

Thanks Lori my hitch is rated to 5000 lbs if I understand correctly if I don't exceed GCVWR I should be fine?

hartley,

You are correct do not exceed your GCVW with a 5000 lb hitch you will be good to go. Be sure you have the RV loaded for a trip with full tank of gas and full tank of Fresh Water plus occupants
