So Blue Ox doesn't make a base plate for the stock 2016 bumper? (sorry, I tried to follow but got confused). I'm going to have to replace my Jeep this fall.

I don't see a brakeaway needed as my Jeep stops on it own with no throttle.
How does it do that when it's in tow mode with transmission and transfer case in neutral?

BAD! Can't be done.

You tow it in Park with the transfer case in neutral. Tows great.

I bet the 2016 is the same as 15, the Blue Ox baseplate ties into the frame with some drilling but not too bad.

I stand corrected. Auto trans should be in Park. However that doesn't change the fact that with the transfer case in Neutral the Jeep is free wheeling. Still don't see how it's going to stop on its own without a break away switch should the Jeep separate from the coach.

I've concluded the bad out-weights the good of a brake-away cable. (too many things can go wrong locking up the toads brakes)
An toad indicator brake light on the dash motorhome is imperative in my view.

So, if your toad breaks loose, goes free wheeling into traffic and hits another vehicle head on what good is your indicator light going to do?

Try re-reading my answer with your glasses on please. I never said the indicator light replaces anything, It adds a safety factor. Four safety cables are the back-up to stop a tow harness failure.

I respectively disagree with your conclusions. I won't say that it can't happen, but I have yet to read about a break-away pin being pulled while a vehicle is being towed. However I have read a number of situations where the towed vehicle has completely separated from the towing vehicle even when they had cables attached. What happened in most of those cases was, due to the towed vehicle violently whipping back and forth, the base plate separated from the towed vehicle.

There are many states that require a break-away device (see link), and while it's true they refer to trailers, IMO it would be foolish to think it they don't apply to vehicles being towed four down, particularly if that vehicle broke loose and caused property damage, or worse yet, physical injury.
State and Province Towing Laws - NSA RV Products

My towed vehicles have always been setup with standard cables and then a separate set of cables attaching the base plate to the frame, and of course a break-away switch.

My issue related to towing a 2016 Wrangler with aftermarket bumpers. Not same issue as towing with a stock bumper which likely requires a base plate. You may want to pose that question of base plate mounts to tow bar vendor.
