Towing

We have been RVing for over forty(40) years with trailers and fifth wheels. Just recently purchased a Winnebago Sunstar. I have a 2002 Kia Sportage 2dr, 4X4 and manual trans that I plan to pull flat. My question, has anyone towed this particular vehicle and if so any problems that I may or may not encounter? I have been told by several people and the Kia dealer that this should be no problem providing I follow the normal details, ie; transfer case in neutral, drive trans in neutral or any forward gear and the ignition on accessory. I would appreciate any responses.

First thing I'd do is read the owner's manual for the car.

What does it say about towing "four down." If there is no comment there, call a local deal for the car and ask their service dept.

Good luck.

For giggles, I checked Remco and it looks like you're in luck. The Sportage is towable. The only caveat is that they don't recommend exceeding 55 mph. Remco also sells Blue Ox base plates for it, so I think you're good to go.

towing

My thanks to those who passed on their insights. I now have some avenues to look into to verify a can do or cannot do. Thanks again.

Hi smokeeater,
Go to http://auto.needmanual.com/2002-kia-...trd=0f8ed9fe63 This is the owners manual. Scroll to page 6-16 through 6-17. The information you need is contained on these pages.
