Towing 4 down

If you have a Remco Lube Pump Kit, Do you also need the Drive Shaft Disconnect? I have a (FWD) Hyundai Tibron, And a GMC (RWD) truck.
both automatics.
If i go with the Dive Shaft Disconnect, would i need the lube pump also?

What would be the best way to go? Car or Truck ?

Best way to go will depend on your needs. How many people do you need to transport? I would go with the lightest vehicle.

If you use the drive shaft disconnect you will not need the lube pump.

Its just me and the wife, Getting to cold for the Harley, Need something with a heater. Just want to do the smart thing. Don't know the cost of anything yet.

The Hyundai is lighter and the FWD is better if you get into any snow.

If the GMC has a cap it will hold more cargo.

Does Remco make kits for both?

With the GMC truck you can load the Harley and take it too in case the weather warms up.

Check REMCO to find out the costs.

Hi...we have a 2005 Ford Taurus which cannot be towed 4 down without a Remco kit. OUr question: Is there any downside to using a Remco; possible damage to car, ease of using with "senior" bodies, (not to good at getting on hands & knees anymore). We presently have a Suzuki Sidekick which is the " berries" for towing but it is a 5 speed and we need an automatic...don't want to purchase another car if we can use the Taurus. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I can not comment on your vehicle specifically, however I can comment on the Lube Pump and Drive Shaft Disconnect and the Axle lock. (The latter is used on Front wheel drive vehicles)

You need only one of those. not two.. If you use the lube pump then you don't need the disconnect or lock, if you use the disconnect or lock you don't need the lube pump.

In fact with the disconnect.. You put the towed in PARK. the transmission is not turning and thus needs not lubrication.. the Disconnect is the same as removing the drive shaft.

Of the two (Disconnect/Lock or Pump) I prefer the Disconnect or lock.

Why:
The pump is an active device, it eats electricity, it has moving parts and it can fail.

While the disconnect and lock do have moving parts, (A bearing) the Mean Time between Failures on this type of "Clutch" is in the "I should live so long" category.. or rather I won't live that long.

Remco kit

Thank you for the info on both Lube Pump & Disconnect. I have concerns that the Lube Pump could fail and as I said I can't get down on the ground and disconnect the drive shaft; so I guess I will have to look for another car that will work for us.

Hello All, I don't think REMCO makes the drive shaft disconnect any longer..I'm not sure what happened but shortly after I purchased one last fall they were removed from their web site. Does anyone have any info about this??

The Remco Drive Shaft Disconnect is now handled by a separate company, Superflow, and sold under the name Remco Drive Shaft Coupling.

You don't have to crawl underneath for a drive shaft disconnect on a rear drive car - there is a push/pull lever mounted in the passenger cabin. Really simple to use.

Why do you think a lube pump might fail but a disconnect will not? Any mechanical device could fail. Heck, if you had a 4WD vehicle that did not need either, its own transfer case might still fail. There is no real benefit to second guessing that sort of thing - it just gives you ulcers!
