Towing a 2012 jeep grand cherokee 4wd

I just bought a new 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4wd. I am having the brackets installed tomorrow for the Roadmaster 5000 tow bar. I have been towing an old Honda and am a little concerned about the weight increase. The jeep has a curb wt of 4650lbs. I have a CAT 3126b 330 hp and will be doing a lot of mountain climbing. The jeep manual gives instructions on putting the transfer case in neutral but then says to turn the ignition off. Won't that lock the steering? I am using a Roadmaster 9700 supplemental brake system. Sure would hate to damage a 40k vehicle. Any thoughts or precautions you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I tow an 07. I always take the keys out and lock doors, wheel don't lock. And yes transmission in park, transfer case in neutral. Good news is miles don't record on odometer.

None of the newer electronic odometers should record miles if set correctly. Some people leave the ignition in the wrong position on some vehicles and they do record the miles then.

This is my first post here, if I mess it up please excuse. I am also looking at a Jeep GC diesel (2008) 24,000 miles. Factory shows 4,488 lbs as the curb weight. Can I ask what towing rig you use to tow a Grand Cherokee. Tow bar, Brake sys., Wiring, etc. Thank You!

I have two Jeep Diesels, a Laredo and a Limited. Both say 6150 lbs on the labels inside the door. 4,488 lbs sounds like a gas engine Jeep.

I had a aluminium Blue Ox tow bar for my previous Jeep (a gas version) but I sold it and purchased an Avanta (from Blue Ox also) when I bought the Jeep diesel. I also use a Blue Ox Base Plate. Very happy with Blue Ox.

Thank You Daniel! I bow to vastly more experience. I have only been RVing for one month and do not yet own the JGC. Your good experience with the Blue Ox line of of towing accessory's towing the Diesel JGC will be put to good use.
While I have your attention may I ask your opinion on what will be pulling the JGC? I purchased a 36' 1996 Country Coach, with the 300HP Cummings C class engine. The power is transfered to the drivers tru an Allison 3060. Agin Thank You.

I pulled my Jeep diesel with my previous coach also. It was a Win. Ultimate Freedom (02) (40 ft) with a Cummins 370. You would not know the Jeep was there. Seriously.
Is your Country Coach rated to pull 7500? I suspect that it is (if not 10,000). You should be fine!
