The folks at Remco tell me that it's OK to tow my 4Runner four-down as long as I have the transmission in neutral and the transfer case in 2 high.

I talked to another guy there that said it's Ok if you do it neutral and neutral.

This inconsistent response is what I am seeing all over the internet about my 4Runner. Can I trust the information I'm getting from Remco?

Anyone tow a 4Runner in the 96 to 99 vintage years? If so which of the procedures mentioned by the OP should one use? Toyota has a canned response "no towing any Toyota product!". I have done lots of searches trying to find some info on the towability as a Toad for this vehicle. I have an opportunity to buy a 96 for little money but is in great shape. Manual transmission makes it very attractive to me.
Thanks for any info. -- Frank

I have taken the plunge and am towing my 98 SR5 4WD 5 speed 4runner. REMCO said it's a go if you have the transfer case in 2 high and the gear shift in neutral. So far, no problems.
