I currently live in Ohio and the state doesn't mandate the car I tow behind my motorhome to have aux brake system.
I know other states are currently inforcing this .

Question being:
If I travel into another state that does require aux brake systems am I legal not having one since my state doesn't require one?

Thanks in advance.

Terry,

Legal or not it is not wise to tow a vehicle with out the aux brakes. Even a tow dolly with surge brakes will do. You cheat youself, your passengers and those you share the road with by not having them.

To; Terry44.

No, laws apply to anyone using roads, whether or not vehicle is registered in that state.

Of equal importance, it's safer using aux. system, faster stops and overall a lot less danger to you and yours and others sharing roads with you.

Hope this info doesn't discourage you.

Thanks===Aime=== AJBJRVERS ====

In additon to the "laws", check your chassis manufacturers recommendations for towing. Most of the gasser chassis manufactures limit you to 1000 or 1500# for a towed load with out auxillary braking.

In additon to auxilary brakes, you shoudl also have a break away system in case the dinghy comes loose.

While other states accept your license and registration from your home state, you are required to otherwise follow the rules of the road in the state you are visiting.

Think also of the implications not haveing safety equipment means to your insurance company. One way you may get a discount and another (if you were over weight) you may not be coered in the event of a mishap.
