newmar 40 foot aire I want to know can I tow a Tahoe suv with this unit without adding remote brakes to the Tahoe. thanks

Sure you can tow it, question is can you stop it. I don't go anywhere without brakes in the toad. Saw one on I-75 in KY where the toad came loose from the mh. Was headed south but crossed the median and both northbound lanes before hitting a tree. Luckily it didn't hit a family before it hit the tree.

I think I read somewhere by law (DOT) any vehicle towed four down must have assisted braking if over 4k pounds in weight. I believe the Tahoe weighs around 5k pounds. I agree with the privies post, it is cheap insurance to protect your investments.

I have a 2011 and it weighs in about 5890lbs. Almost all states require supplemental breaking on a towed vehicle. You can chek on line but my guess is unless you don't go anyplace, you'll be driving through a state that requires it. For safety sake, you'll want supplemental breaking. Read the post at the top of the page about the physics of breaking on the entire combination rig. Good luck.

I agree with the simple concept to just get one and not worry of where you may want to travel. The Ca dmv states the following.

I tow a 2004 GMC Yukon, with a 38ft, 2001, Alpine. The Yukon weighted in at 6500lbs. Why would you not want to put supplemental brakes on it?

Vehicles brakes were designed to stop the vehicle which is loaded. Not for what it is towing. You could be putting yourself and others in jeopardy because of no supplemental braking.
