Just a little info. I purchased a new 2005 Chevy Colorado 4x4 Z71, with a 5 cyinder engine for possible future toad. I am presently towing a 2004 CRV. I had it weighed today with a full tank of gas, Running boards, line-x bed liner, and trailer hitch, and fabric bed cover. Weight was 4080Lbs. Vet Man

VetMan: That's the truck I want, good info on the weight. Are you going to tow with a 5000lbs tow bar or upgrade to a 10000lbs? Also my local dealer wants $28k for the truck, is that just CA pricing or should I meet you in CT?

Gary CA, I will be towing with the 5000lb hitch. That is what I have now with the Sterling Road Master tow bar. Save your money coming to Ct. that was the window price. There is a good rebate going on plus a thousand Hot-Button cash. I also got little company discount. After taxes etc and my 2001 S-10 trade. $16,000 difference. I really like the truck, having trouble keeping the wife out of it. Vet Man

I was told at that time that my Aladdin (5000#) towbar wasn't going to be enough hardware to tow the Trailblazer. After considering everything we moved up to an Aventa II (10000#) and that's what we ran until recently. Since we purchased the Saturn Vue (3700#) and dropped a thousand pounds we again moved back into an Aladdin.

We appreciate the lighter weight of the aluminum Aladdin and since we dropped a thousand pounds I feel comfortable again using a 5000# rated hitch.

I truly believe that 5000# rated hitches are really well suited for toads under 4000#. Just my thoughts on the subject. See you in June.

The Roadmaster Sterling is rated to tow 6000#. The Sterling is a superb hitch.

Thanks Tom, I never paid much attention of the tow weight because I was towing a CRV. I think I will get it weighted just for fun. Vet Man

Good rule of thumb if it weights 4000lbs or more go with the higher rated tow bar. Or be lazy like me I use a Aventa II for the last 4 years and had 3 different tow vehicles. First a Dodge 2500. Second a Honda CRV and now a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I never take the tow bar off the back of my coach and have a lock on it.

Vetman, I'm going to step up to a better Toad, I have a Saturn dealer chasing me to buy a Vue. I have ridden in Driver's and have watched him tow and set it up and I am impressed. I dont know whether or not I should get the AWD or the FWD. What do you think Driver?

Capt Bud I believe the Satun is Honda powered. Chevy is selling a Saturn by another name, it might be worth a check. As I know you will be sure what ever you buy can be towed 4 down. I do not know about a AWD. Vet Man

You're still in snow up to your ears up in Jersey in the winter and even when it rains or if you run into some sand the AWD will kick in and give you added traction if you need it.

Vetman, I went to look at a Equinox (if that's what you're thinking) and I really don't think it has a Honda engine or the saleman would have said something different when I asked him about it.

The Vue as far as I know is the only GM vehicle with the 3.5L 250HP V-6 and 4 speed auto. The AWD will be a good selling point when it comes time to sell or trade. I've seen quite a few Vues even where it doesn't snow.

There is no real need to have the AWD BTW just the V6 is all you need.

Hi Driver, Equinox is the one I was thinking about, I had seen one but have never sat in one. I was told by the Saturn dealer that the Vue had a Honda engine, I do not know about the Equinox or if he was correct. Vet Man

I finally have a chance to correct the "Master". Mike the Vue has a "5" speed automatic. And I have made up my mind that I'm going with the FWD V6. If one reads the specs The MPG is better, the weight is lighter by 153#, and right now I have a 4WD Blazer and I have never driven it in the 4WD mode. Remember Mike, I go south for the winter. And the FWD V6 is the only model with Traction Control.
All it takes now is for Ruthie to give it the financial blessing and it's a go. I already have my dealership lined up to do an after hour install of the Blue Ox base plate...
