Towing a CRV-Questions?????

I am considering buying a USED CRV for towing and have looked at all the comments on IRV2. I am looking for one in the 2004-2007 range. From what I can read, it seems that to have one to flat tow, it has to be AWD or 4WD, am I correct on this assumption? Also, since I see some with AWD and some with 4WD, what is the difference between the two and does anyone know what years separate the AWD from the 4WD?

I have a 2005 and it is considered AWD. It tows easily and makes a great all-around vehicle.

We tow a 2007 that is not AWD or 4WD. I am not an expert, but it is my understanding that all drive combinations of the CRV are towable four down. Check the owner's manual under "Recreational Towing" to be certain.

I tow a 2006 2WD auto with no problems. The owners manual gives instructions to follow before each tow.

All the CR-V's are towable four down whether AWD or front wheel drive.

If you find a specific year/model you might try searching this site for towing information: Store : Remco

Thank you for the input, I will begin the search. I would like to have a 4wd or awd, but we'll see.

We love our CRV toad. It is AWD and it is the best overall tow-behind we've had so far.

We have a 2009 2 wheel drive and it tows on all 4 wheels just fine. The owners manual says it is ok to tow up to 65 mph but I normally stay at 60. Be sure to carefully read the manual.

Ours is a 2010 4wd. My understanding at the time was that all are flat-towable as long as you follow the owner's manual procedure. (If memory serves me, I checked the owner's manual of both 2wd and 4wd just to be sure. No difference.) I was also confused by the AWD / 4wd designations. First off, even with 4wd, these are 'soft road' not 'off-road' vehicles. My previous Grand Cherokee Overland had full-time 4wd. You could use a separate shifter to go to low 4wd, etc. Honda's lack this. It's just like my wife's Cross Country Volvo AWD. You drive it, it does the rest.
