Towing a Dodge Nitro

I have a 2008 Dodge Nitro 2wd 6-spd standard. I have read in the manual,
spoken to Chrysler and have been told they must have the drive-shaft disconnected to tow 4W down. While I am prepared to go through the hassle of disconnecting and reconnecting the driveshaft, I wonder if I could idle the engine while the vehicle is being towed without suffering transmission damage.
I have spoken with several dealers (service depts) and no one can give me a definitive yes or no. Does anyone out there have an educated answer that can help?

I have a 2011 Nitro and it is'nt listed in the tow guide. If you are to do it, I would go with the dealers suggestion. I can't say for sure why it can't being a standard tranny, but I wouldn't chance it. Not sure running the engine would make any difference to why you can't tow with drive shaft connected.
