Is anyone here flat towing a 92 jeep cherokee sport? I am thinking of buying one locally, but only if I can flat tow without a bunch of modifications to it.

Steve,
Does it have the owners manual? Is it 4 wheel drive? I tow a 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport, 4 down, the manual tells you how! Transfer case in Neutral, auto xmission in park, ing Sw "one click on" turn the key one click, this does nothing (on the 97) but unlock the steering wheel. Next Tow! BUT check with Jeep Dealer! My Jeep has been to Alaska and back, have towed 4 down for over 60,000 miles.

I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Quadra-Trac tranny (all 4W all the time). It can be towed without modifications. I have also posted that section of my owner's manual online.
Excerpt From 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Owner's Manual You will have to scroll down to the 14th message.

Pretty much all of the 4wd Jeeps can be towed 4 down. It's the Grand Cherokee's to watch out for. I wouldn't hesitate to buy any 4wd Cherokee and tow it 4 down.
Note, the requirement for 4wd.

I've got a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4 wheel drive. I tow it 4 down all the time. No mods needed.

I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee which I tow all the time. As someone else said, turn key one click to unlock steering wheel, put transfer case in neutral, regular tranny in Park, and off you go.
BTW, I have the AWD version.

We had a 1991 Jeep Cherokee that we towed for years without any problems. If yours is 4X4 with manual transfeer case and the owner's manual okays flat towing you shouldn't have any worries.

We tow a 93 Jeep GC w/two wheel drive. We had a quick disconnect installed for the driveshaft. Pull the disconnect cable to disengage driveshaft and place auto transmisson in park, set ignition switch to the first notch to release steering lock and you are ready to go.
