Right now renting a dolly looks like the best option. I've seen some prices in indianapolis area for buying one for around $700 so I may go that route. I'm waiting on the hitch install so they can send me the receiver height to see what type of ball mount I need. I already have severl drops for a 2" receiver and all the different balls sizes. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>The rental tow dollies will only work on stock tires, pretty much 31" and below. They also may not work on wide tires. This is the case, at least for U-haul.
Of course if you buy a dolly you can fit whatever size strap you want.
There are other brackets that can be used on the Wrangler. Some attach directly to the bumper, but if you are using the stock bumper, be sure to put large backing plates on them. If you have an aftermarket bumper makde with 1/8" or thicker steel, you won't need the backing plates.
I have also used a Tomken bumper and Tomken tow bar. This gives you a stout bumper with tow/shackle rings and nothing to break or bend offroad.
Tomken Tow Bar ($125)
Tomken Universal Tow Brackets ($43)
Tomken Bumper ($260)
Tomken Bumper with Brush Guard ($310)
I have no connection to Tomken.
The worst thing about the Tomken is that the tow bar is fixed. I solved this by buying a Blue Ox Alladin and having new knuckles made to connect the tow bar and the bumper.
Now that I look at it, I don't see why the Roadmaster Tracker couldn't be mounted on the stock bumper face, rather than below the bumper.
