You will love the jeep, use a 4door hardtop. I agree with most of the other post.after trying 2 differant toad brake systems, I installed a roadmaster invisa brake on the jeep, works great, takes less then 5 minutes to connect .

I would say if your going used get 2012 and newer. The original JK’s 3.8L is super weak. The 12+ with the reworked interior, smaller and 90HP more powerful engine and reworked trans is worth the extra money,

I agree with NC25T, buy a 2012 or newer to get the vastly improved transmission and the 3.6 v6 that has about 90 hp more than the older 3.8

We have a 2012 JKUR Rubicon that we pull. We have the Air Force One air brake system and would buy it again.

I'm a brand new RV owner. Less than a month of ownership, and I'm amazed at how easy it is to tow the Jeep. I keep giving it too much room on turns, because with any speed at all, it tucks right in behind the RV and tracks perfectly. Possibly only at a crawl and hard cut will it possibly track inside my ACE.

Based on my research, there is no simpler tow vehicle. Put the transfer case in neutral, remove the key and you are done (a few steps to insure you are in neutral). Some cars you need to leave the key in the ignition. Some remove negative cable. Some remove fuses. Some start the engine every x miles or hours. Not with the Jeep.

My Wrangler would like to be a towed. But it's lifted 3 inches with 35 inch tires. Heavy off road steel bumpers and a winch. A V10 class A would really add some time and gas $$ to a trip compared to what I have now.

We use the same setup too.

I did see a Jeep Owner that still prefers to use a flatbed for towing. I think it was the fact they also carry a hot tub with them.

So, if you want the hot tub...then maybe 4 up is the way to go....

Current 2012 Wrangler 25,000 miles towing and previous 2006 Wrangler 20,000. I doubt I would tow anything else because they are too easy. As others said, 2012 and newer have the best engine and transmission. Anything after 2008 does not require a key in the ignition to tow. I use a Blue Ox tow bar, Demco base plate, RVI2 brake and a Mopar wiring harness for lights.

Solid advice here. I don't have much to add other than to be aware of the weight of the Jeep you are looking at. Looks like you have 5k pound towing capacity with the Winnebago, and a stock Unlimited has a curb weight starting at about 4500 pounds. Added equipment/modifications, etc, can get you close or over that 5k pounds. My '11 Unlimited weighs in right at 5400 pounds - with no junk in the back.

Other than that small concern - go Jeep!

I thought about that and would have to weigh it before I bought it. I always respect the manufacturer limits but wonder how much difference a few hundred lbs would make considering it has no tongue weight and its own brakes.

I tow my 2012 4 door Rubicon just fine. Tranny in first and transfer in neutral. I have a blue ox in the rv and just link it to my smittybilt bumber. No need for a base plate.

Question about the smittybuilt bumpet.

You said no need for a baseplate. Is that because of the beefiness of the bumper? Is the bumper tied well to the frame? Hoe do the mounts from the tow bar connect to the bumper?
I'm considering a smittybuilt bumper for my lexus gx470 which I also use as a toad. Same process as jeep. 1 position click on transfer case from 4h to N. Though you do need to leave key in ignition. Awesome vehicle though.
