Probably not.

How much does the trailer and jet ski weigh?

Does the jet ski trailer have factory brakes?

I doubt you'll find any single jet ski trailers with brakes. Maybe a few double ski trailers but probably not those either. Come to think of it I don't think I've ever seen a jet ski on a trailer with brakes.

X2. I have a Sea-Doo speedster boat and it is very very light on the trailer. Total up maybe 2000 lbs. I would imagine a jet ski on a trailer would be half that.

Not only will you not need any brakes on a trailer that light but, even if you wanted to put them on, just 'cause, you sure as heck would NOT WANT ELECTRIC trailer brakes. You'd want standard HYDRAULIC BOAT TRAILER BRAKES. Those are activated by a surge activated trailer tongue. But, you don't and won't have to worry about it since that trailer and load is so light.

Surge brakes are illegal in some states or , and most trailers of any size don't use them as they can't be controlled. Electrics or electric over hydraulic are the state of the art, with disk brake on the trailer wheels.

Don't tell that to U Haul. Every trailer I've seen them rent, has surge brakes.

They self control by the amount of pressure on the coupling.

Surge brakes cannot be actuated independent of the actual vehicle brakes and also lag the tow vehicle brakes by the time it takes for the surge mechanism to pivot forward. That is why they are illegal. Search around for the information so you are not ignorant any longer.

Good link, it says that on April 5th 2007 surge brakes were made legal. Besides, we're not talking interstate commerce here. That's only for commercial vehicles.
