I pulled a 91 Miata with a standard transmission. Liked pulling it because it was light.

No problems encountered.

The big one is that Automatic Transmission Miatas are NOT towable and there is no practical (= inexpensive) way to make them towable.

The 5-speeds and 6-speed Manual transmissions are both OK, even though you may hear differently from some of the car "Experts" out there. Mazda also says they are not towable.

I towed a 2000 Miata 5-speed over 35,000 miles

and have now towed a 2010 Miata retractable hardtop 6-speed for over 12,000 miles.

I have helped nearly 50 Miata owners to get their Miatas set-up to tow.

If you are contemplating towing a manual transmission Miata, PM me and I can tell you what you need to know.
