Towing a U-haul trailer

Has anyone out there towed a U-haul behind their dp? If so, were there any problems hooking up lights? Do you need a brake system or would the coaches brakes suffice? UHaul won't be heavily loaded. DH would like to know. We have odds and ends left from over that couldn't be moved last year to get home to Texas.

U-Haul will make the light hookup, you may have to buy an adapter. Larger trailers have surge brakes so that is a done deal. Easier towing behind the dp than behind the pickup.

You should have no problems, most all rental trailers have surge brakes on them so as not to create problems with brake controllers and wiring. The only u-haul I towed was a dolly, worked well. When we bought our Coach, drove the car 925 miles and rented a u-haul dolly for the ride home.

Make sure your hitch is rated for the trailer, U-Haul will verify this prior to allowing you to hook up the trailer.
