towing a utv & car

Last winter was our 1st motorhome outing. On our trip we spent a couple days near near Quartzite, AZ. Several of the campers there were ATV'ers. We liked the area and thought that looked like great fun, So, we bought a Polaris RZR and want to go back this winter for a month.

When in Lake Havasu we saw a rig from Oregon that just met our needs. The owner called it a "frame extension" with a tag axel. It was on an older class a gas motorhome that carried a Honda Gold Wing on the extension then pulled a small car 4 wheels down on a towbar behind the Honda on the attachment. I have looked extensively for a similar rig, but have not found one. The owner told me it was mfg'd in the Quartzite area. He also told me the mfg website, but I lost the name before getting a chance to check it out.

We have a 36' '03 Southwind on a 8.1 Vortec chassis, the 900# Polaris RZR & the toad is a 3100# Subaru Impreza. I'm fairly sure that a frame extension that will carry a fully loaded Gold Wing will certianly carry my RZR

Has anyone seen such a rig or know where to get one??

thx

For Rear Lifts or "frame extension" have your front & rear axle weighted when loaded for travel. Then you can add on the extra weight of a lift by below.

Measure the distance from the center of rear axle to the center of the weight(Lift).
Divide that number by the RV’s wheelbase.
Multiply the result by 100 to get percent.
That percent of the load is added to the load and becomes the total load added to the rear axle.
That percent of the load is subtracted from the front axle weight and unloads the front axle by that amount.

800 lb bike, Lift 100 lb=900 lb
Center axle to rear 120” wheelbase 240”
120 divide by 240=0.50 X 100= 50%
Weight is 1350 lb added to rear axle
Front axle will be 450 lbs lighter

Make sure your rear axle is not overloaded. Gas RV's usually have less carrying capacity then a DP.

And not all DP can do it.
