Towing A Vehicle

I would like to set up my "new to me" Class C Winnebago to accommodate a towing vehicle. I am a "green horn" when it comes to this so any help would be appreciated. I wish to go with tow bars and not a dolly. Anything I need to know about the type of vehicle I should be looking at. I see a lot of Jeeps being towed behind motor homes, but if I go that route do I need to be careful about the model I get? Thanks for any response.

I'd suggest you start by reviewing the Toads and Motorhome Related Towing forum in the Motorhome forums below. It's located HERE and can answer a lot of your questions.

Duggie, you may want to check and see how much towable weight your RV can handle before you start searching for a vehicle to tow. Sometimes this will narrow your search down considerably. Somewhere within the cab or RV there should be a placard that will tell you the allowable towable weight. Also check the tow weight rating of your hitch. You should take in to consideration the type of terrain, and the horsepower of your RV in your decision making also. As for Jeeps, I believe most that are equipped with 4 wheel drive are towable.

Good advice from dieselclacker. Find out exactly what you can tow, check the tow rating for the RV and the rating for the hitch. Then, remember that what you can actually tow is the GCWR minus the weight of the tow vehicle when ready to tow, or the hitch rating. Jeeps are heavy and have poor records for reliability.

Thanks for the responses, looks like I need to do a little research on my motor homes capabilities. Guess when you purchase something that BIG, you would think it could pull ANYTHING!!!!!! Thanks again.
