Hello Brain; if I am not mistaken the Volvo xc60 is an all wheel drive crossover? If I am correct it can not be towed 4 down or on a dolly. In order to take it with you, it must be put on a car trailer.

Since all models of the 2012 Volvo xc60 are all wheel drive, I doubt if it can be towed 4 down. Check in your owner's manual, that will tell you, I'm sure. Always check the owner's manual, don't go on what a sales person tells you if exploring a vehicle's 'Toadability.'

I looked at several years of the Dinghy Guide published by Motorhome Magazine and not one Volvo had been approved by the manufacturer for towing 4 down.

You figure out how to do this, I want to be the first to know. In the past I looked into it with a Cross Country wagon & an XC90. No go with both. Rented an XC60 & loved it.

I want to know the answer to this, too. I'd love to be able to tow my Volvo. Too scared to try... \ken

Ever consider the 'gentleman' might just be trying to increase business for the service center? If you Google "towing AWD Volvo" you'll find many stories of people who've tried --- and PAID. Very expensive parts!

I do not trust service writers at dealerships when it comes to questions about technical support. They did not design the transmission. Some engineer did, and between the manufacturer and the engineer it was decided that the vehicle can not be towed 4 down. If it could be towed 4 down the manufacturer should make the discussion. If the manufacturer said it is OK and something goes wrong the manufacturer pays. If the dealer said it OK to tow and the manufacturer said no you pay.
I have also found that service writer's have a short memories and offen move around to different dealerships.
I would side on what the manufacturer said not the dealer. That just my $0.02.
Good luck on what you decide to do.

Hi everyone,
I did a bit of searching on Volvo for 2012 owners manuals and it appears that although the xc60 can be towed, the restrictions (such as speed, distance, etc) made it clear to me that I wouldn't/shouldn't tow the car.
