Towing a VW Bug (65-74)

If anyone is towing an older Bug what is the tow bar that works well?

A manual transmission Beetle is very towable. There are still tow bars available for about $100. These are usually the 'stiff' type of tow bar, which can be a pain to line up to the ball hitch.

Blue Ox has a base plate for Beetles that would allow using a modern tow bar with extendable arms that make hooking up easier. Of course the base plate is almost $400 and then you have to buy the tow bar.

Thumbs up

I have a 1974 beetle and the tow bar. They are not hard to hook up. If you have a second person, let that person guide you as you drive up to the ball.
