Towing advice mkx

Getting down to final stages before hitting the road. Purchased 2005 dutchstar 4023. Recently purchased a 2011 mkx. Motorhome came with a blue ox tow bar. I need to purchase a base plate for mkx and want to go with a Air Force one brake system. I am located in the Des Moines area but am willing to travel to have this installation done. I am looking for guidance of someone to contact. Smitty's welding out of Houston has been mentioned in these blogs (Wayne) any others that may be closer? I will be heading toward Ariz mid Nov. but would like to get this done before leaving. Thanks. Roger

Hello Roger,
Call Blue Ox and get their # for the Blue Ox Base Plate. Ask them who they recommend for installation in your area or along your route. The same for AFO, call them and ask for installation recommendations. They know their dealers and they most likely received feed back, pro or con, regarding the dealers.

The 2011 MKX will use the same base plate that I have, I just don't remember the number off the top of my head.

Smitty's Welding is definitely a place on my list of places to have it installed. Call to set up an appointment. For the AFO you will want both the coach and the TOAD present but I don't believe that it is a real necessity. I had the coach already prepared from the installation 5 years ago of the AFO, so this time it was just the TOAD and I did not have to take the coach back in. I'm sure different dealers may wish to do things differently.

Happy trails. If you get to the Houston area, give a holler. I'll drive 50 miles to have a sandwich with you.
