Towing affecting mpg

I have a 22' Chieftain with a 454. My scuba trailer is a 5x8 enclosed Haulmark that weighs about 2,000 pounds full. How much can I expect my mpg to drop?

I remember as a kid we pulled a boat behind our 24' with a 440, and my dad said he "couldn't even tell it was back there." This same trailer drops my V-6 Blazer's mpg from 24 to 16, but I realize a lot of that is aerodynamics (the trailer is at least a foot taller than the Blazer) and the fact that the little V-6 is underpowered.

I'm going to be in Florida for more than a week, with cave diving mixed with other tourist stuff, and I've thought about putting everything in the MH, but some of the gear is heavy and bulky.

What can I speculate?

I am not sure but I would be surprised if it changed much. I remember when I had a pick-up with the 454. It didn't seem to matter if I had my camper on or not my mileage stayed about the same. BAD!

Cave diving. Something I have always wanted to do.

I hope you have a great trip and a safe dive.

Hi Sludge,
I agree with OneRVer. I doubt you'll see any difference in MPG. If there is a difference it will be in a fraction of MPG.

Yep, our 8.1 shows little decrease in mileage towing the Jeep(3800lbs.)here in Florida...in the mountains, it's 1 to 2 mpg less. Bob
