Towing an Equinox on EZ dolly ?

I loaded up our new Equinox on the EZ tow dolly yesterday. It towed great and really no issues with the fit or towing.

So what is the problem ? Well when I unloaded it the Check Stable Trac light was on and didn't clear until I had use Drive and Reverse ?

The other issue is towing lights ? On the old Toad I used lights on the back cargo tray with towing. No place to put them in the Equinox ? Anyone know of a place to get a harness that would make the factory lights work with the 7-way connector on the motorhome ?

Thanks
Bill

Can't help with the Check Stable Trac light.... but have installed a diode kit in my Fusion to run the toad lights off the MH. Simple installation took 30 minutes or so. Hardest part was finding/making a hole in the firewall to pass the cable. The kit came with diodes and a wire harness. Simple and reasonably priced -- about $45

What year is your Equinox? When I looked up owners manual on the Equinox. There are several pages of info on the system. Driving the car should clear light.

On my enclave I use a demco light bar with suction cups. Attached to lift gate window. Run wire to front of the toad , plug into Motorhome.

Are you following the dinghy towing procedure in your owners manual?

If your Equinox is AWD, it may not be towable on a dolly.

The Equinox is FWD. Driving did clear up fault, just not sure why I got it in the first place.

Stabiltrack is an antiskid system and works off the ABS wheel speed sensors and the steering wheel position. It gets confused when the rear wheels are spinning at different speeds and the front wheels (steering) appear to be moving straight ahead. And it may be applying braking to try to correct for that and finding it cannot cause any changes.

Typically faults of that sort are automatically cleared after some pre-determined number of ignition on/off cycles without an additional occurrence.

If it set that fault, it may be applying the brakes during towing as Gary stated. Are you towing with the key on? Is there a button (usually on the console) to turn off the system? What circuit is the system on in the car and can the fuse be pulled.

I would be more concerned with why it turned on than how to clear. I would personally try towing again the exact same way to see if the fault re-appears. If it does, clear it and then try some other things to ensure it doesn't appear prior to towing any long distances.

I run into this all the time with the Corvette when you put it on the dyno. You have to shut down the system prior to running the car to prevent the system from activating since the front wheels aren't turning and the rear wheels are turning the drums of the dyno.

My 2WD Acadia gets the occasional fault when towing too. Mine will be either a Check Engine or a Track light and it goes away after a few start/stop cycles. Check Engine on this vehicle is a problem with the emmisions control stuff and not a engine problem per se. Track is what I described earlier in this thread.

I believe if it faults, the systems also shuts down. That may be what saved the OP's brakes but I would test to find out why the fault set to begin with.
