Question Towing full size car on a trailer ?

I will be tow my 62 BelAir on a flat bed car trailer behind my Allegro 30 ft. CLASS A? Last year we towed using a load leveler hitch, behind a 28 ft, Class C. Im wondering if I need the load leveler hitch ? Combined the car and trailer are just under 5k pounds, the trailer has brakes and the MH has a controler.

I have always used the load leveler because it makes the tow ride better behind my truck but the hitch is pretty low behind the MH. I dont want to drag on every low spot,!!

Bill

For my reply, I am assuming that your load leveler is actually a Weight Distribution Hitch (WDH) set-up.

Unless your loaded trailer exceeds the tongue weight capacity of the hitch, you probably do not need a WDH. The Allegro will probably have a Class 3 receiver...5000lb load rating and 500lb tongue capacity.

But, some WDH's also provide sway control - a nice function.

I doubt the Allegro would really "feel" a car and carrier like your pick-up or Class C, so it is kinda'up to you. If there is any doubt, why not give it a trial run near home. Hard starts and stops, and freeway lane changes will show you if you want to use the WDH.

Best of luck

Need to know how much of the ~5k weight is on the tongue. I ASSUME it should be like a TT (10-15%).

Have you weighed the MH? What is the RAWR?

If you trailer is tongue heavy and/or the MH is tail heavy than a WDH would be helpful.

A few years ago I had a 2002 30' Flair with a V10 Ford F-53 chassis. I towed my 4000# Jeep on a trailer with a total weight of about 5500# and no special hitch. The Flair was rated for 5000# and I did install a set of air bags on the rear to bring it up a little. I towed that combination about 14,000 miles and never had any issues.
