My Civic is old, a 2001 with 200,000 miles on it. No problems with it. I go through the tow prep sequence every time I stop for fuel.
Start engine, run it through all the gears with about 10 seconds in each position,
P-R-N-D-D2-D1, then back from D1-D2-D-N. Stop it in "N"
Leave it running in "N" for about 15 seconds, then shut it off.
IMPORTANT - The sequence MUST be run in this order, particularly the last step, from D to N. NOT R to N.
Evidently this sets up some valvology in the tranny that allows fluid to circulate a little.

It won't do MACH 2, but I can get a sandwich and take a pee.
