Towing jeep-do miles add up
Hi Everyone, we bought a blue Ox tow bar for the jeep, but hubby would like to know while pulling the jeep 4 down behind the RV, does the odometer keeping adding miles even though you're not driving it?
Thanks in advance,

As the previous post said...no. My 2012 Wrangler does not register miles when towed.

Our '97 Jeep GC didn't.
None of the Jeeps should if you have a true neutral in the transfer case.

I politely disagree. Check again.
What model Wrangler/year are you refering to? If your Wrangler does add miles when towed it's the first one I ever heard of. Do you tow with the ignition powered or key in ithe Accessory position? 2010 and later Wranglers are towed with ignition off which will leave the odometer inert.
If the key is off I guarantee the mileage will not increase when towed. I have towed a variety of Hondas, Suzuki's, and Jeeps and never had the mileage increase on the Odometer when towed. I have towed vehicles for over 100,000 miles with zero miles registering on the odometer.

Our Jeep Liberty does not. However, it does put wear on the tires. We have already had to replace all four and the Jeep only has 35,000 miles on it. Had the tire guy completely confused until we explained that we towed it to 30 states in the last 2 years.

I put 90,000 mile Michelins on the Ody about this time last year and I'm betting we don't get 90,000 miles registered on the odometer before they're worn out!

Our 2004 Wrangler shows about 38,000 miles on the odometer. It's now on it's 3rd set of tires with the actual mileage being closer to 148,000. The first set of tires were replaced under warranty at 15,000 actual miles because of defective belts. The second set went about 110,000 before getting so thin I wouldn't trust them. The newest set have a little over 20,000 miles and look as good as the day we bought them.

Basically electronic odometers will not add up mileage but the old mechanical ones will.

My previous 92 YJ would rack up miles. The speedometer was gear driven off the rear output shaft of the transfer case so would spin with the rear axle.
My current 05 TJ is electronic speedometer and does not rack up the miles.

Our 2012 Liberty is towed with transfer case in Neutral and Transmission in Park. Miles DO NOT add when transmission is in park.
