Towing jeep liberty question

I have a Fleetwood Providence diesel and I want to flat tow a jeep liberty, the jeep weighs 5600 pounds. What is the towing weight of a flat tow vehicle in reference to what the motorhome is rated to tow? I hope that makes since. Someone at the dealer said the coach has a 5000 pound tow hitch, but the panel inside saids 10,000. I have a 360 HP diesel.

If the toad weighs 5600, then you need 5600 of towing capacity. A 5000lb hitch won't be legal.

Have you weighed your Liberty. The published curb weight for our 2012 Liberty is 4290 lbs. that is a large discrepancy between your statement of 5600 and Jeep's 4290.

That weight seemed high to me also.

Have you actually weighed it yet?

Our 2012 Liberty is far below 5000 pounds. What extras are on your Jeep that boosts it's weight by almost 1000 pounds?

I would call Fleetwood to get the hitch rating. Have you vin# when you call them and they should be able to give you the information you need. Good luck and hope all works out.

Ok, the Curb Weight is like 4300 pounds, the gross weight is 5600, which weight matters?

The important weight is the one the Jeep will weigh when you are towing it.

The only way you're going to know for sure is to get the Liberty weighed, as is with a full tank of gas, stuff & you in it. Don't go by any website, brochure or sticker weight numbers. Take it to a scale & find out for sure.

Our Liberty, loaded, is right around 4700 lbs & that's with a couple containers of firewood loaded in the back of it.

The gross weight of 5,600lb is how much it can weigh maximum when loaded up with people, etc. That's not how much it weighs.

The curb weight is what it actually weighs when it leaves the factory.

So if you don't load it up with a bunch of stuff you'll be OK.

You'll notice my signature has my toad weight. I suggest you go to any scale, look it up on Google Maps, and weigh your Jeep.

Putting the weight on your signature will help others in a similar situation. The more information you can put in your signature the more we can help you.

It's important for you to realize that once you go over 3000 lbs you need supplemental braking. So you'll not stress your ability to make an emergency stop-- sometimes they actually show a mh and toad stopping faster than you might with out a toad on. So that would mean a negative pull on the coach's hitch. Generally that probably isn't true but for sure you stay well with in a 5k hitch capacity.

I was lucky I purchased a 2010 jeep liberty with blue ox with a braking system (brake buddy) .
