Towing jeep Wrangler

Fellow Travelers;
For those of you who tow jeep wranglers 4 down, does the steering have to be unlocked? I have a 05 wrangler 6speed manual. Any additional information will be helpful. Thanks

I think the 05 has a steering wheel lock, so you're going to have to unlock it. Normally you leave the key in the ignition for that. I know some people have gotten a mechanic to disable the steering wheel lock so they don't need to.

Both our '10 Wrangler and our '12 Liberty didn't have the locks, so we never had to go that route.

Edit: Don't forget you need to put the transfer case in neutral and the transmission in 6th gear when you tow.

Both auto and manual for '97-06 TJ Wranglers.

Trans in any gear/park, transfer case in neutral and the key in the first click toward "ON" this unlocks the steering lock yet leaves all power off.
The above post is just my experience/opinion which is worth exactly what you paid for it.

TJ's do have steering locks. It is not real hard to disable it. I did a thread on it, with pics, perhaps a couple years ago now. Search for threads started by me, in the toad and towing forum.
