As a willfull violator of the law, one can probably forget about opening the wallet of the insurer.
Wow! Great point! Never even thought of that; scary.

I bowed to the "Law of Common Sense" when deciding whether to have auxillary braking on our towed or any towed for that matter. I wouldn't get caught without it because of the posible liability factor and as stated earlier, "Common Sense".

To the person who said "I'm not taking a chance" GOOD ADVICE!

There is another law, So far we are talking about "Traffic Law" here, (The Vehicle Code) which in Michigan is a combination of Criminal and Civil law. (long story)

However there is Civil law as well.. basically it goes like this:

If nothing happens, no problem

If you, however, should have the misfortune to fail to stop in time, and you are behind me, and I happen to know that the use of aux brakes on your towed can make up to a 30% difference in stopping distance (Source US-Gear) then... "Hear come da-judge" I"m going to invite you to a conference with one of the area's finer citizens, His honor the judge.. I'm going to present the facts, courtesy of the company I mentioned, I'm going to invite a company rep to come present them in fact. Trust me, I'll be able to afford it after you pay. And then we are going to discuss "Reckless Endangerment" Several years ago in Ohio, a Semi Driver who was trying to pass the Honerable Poke Along Charlie, Attorney at law, was hauled into court. "He was waving that truck back there like a big cannon" Now understand there was NEVER any danger to the Attorney.

He got half a million

With inflation.. That shoudl be at least a millon now days. And remember you actually HIT me.
